There’s an article in MIRS … Blogger Buys Cox For Gov/Dillon For Gov …

MIRS is a subscription based news service that covers Lansing politics.

The article is about the fact that I purchased the domain names dillonforgovernor.com and coxforgovernor.com. The article reports that the names were bought by a Democratic blog … that’s not true. A Democratic blogger, yes. I make the distinction only because the MIRS language makes this blog sound like it’s a business entity, which it is not.

I also want to address the final line of the article:

By press time, Barry had not returned a request for comment.

My cell phone number is publicly listed with the whois info of these domains, and I never received a phone call. I did check my email at 6:00 and found that John from MIRS had sent me a message at 4:15. I responded immediately, but that must’ve been after press time.

However had I made it in by press time, they could’ve reported that the names are owned by a private investor, and the practice is called ‘domaining’.

    Nirmal, you aren’t kidding, I do have a lot of them & have just picked up a few more. But many of them aren’t really mine, or they aren’t for my use. I just buy them under my account for other people.

    So, this is getting this press, yet when Jim Marcinkowski was running against Mike Rogers, not only did Mike Rogers buy the most logical domain name for Jim Marcinkowski’s candidacy, the domain name was re-directed to Mike Roger’s site.

    So, as an average voter, if you wanted information on Jim, you would type in a logical domain name, only to go to Mike Roger’s site.

    Hmmmm…. I don’t remember seeing a lot of press on that little re-direct.
