Shiawassee Commissioners To Look Into Health Dept Fees

April 16th, 2007 | by christine |

Today at the Finance Committee meeting, the commissioners decided it would be appropriate to investigate the new Soil Erosion fee structure established by the Health Department.

The first commissioner to question the Health Dept. fees was Jack Johnson, in his April 10 statement:

Now, the program is under the Health Department, and the fees have gone even higher, as I understand it, much higher. According to the Health Board’s budget amendment, they are looking at revenues of $41,000 per year in Soil Erosion fees. Now we are up to 574,000 compared to Bernie Butcher’s 32,000 spread over 14 years. Once again, the people of Shiawassee County are paying for the county government’s lack of competence and proper oversight.

(we’ve been complaining about it here and on the forums too for a while, but Jack was the only commish to notice)

Today the committee decided it was time for the board to look into the amount of the fees and into where the fee money was going. One commissioner indicated that he thought the fee money was going into the general fund.

*sigh*

Anyway, good to see the board get on this. Thank you, commissioners, for that.

Hope you get feeling better ASAP
this and at least one other post is really hard to read with the funny ’sidebar’ truncated down the middle. You are not allowed to get sick. We need you on the front line.

Nobody seems to notice that the Health Dept. also charges for “waivers” but under a different term and including a very small square foot limit. Why is nobody mentioning this? Their fees have gone up per permit 140% to 600% over the 2002-2006 year period. The Drain Office has a detailed comparison chart available everyone should look at!

Yes, I am…. but I think the resolution on my screen isn’t set to optimize your set up. I’ll ask someone to help me… I’m not sure where I make the change.

Okay… now that was really weird. It was cutting off the end of the sentences, but as soon as I posted, it adjusted and I can see everything clearly.

    Whoa…..

ok, I’ll look into a better layout. It’s because I have too much on the screen and instead of a horizontal scroll, you’re getting the overlap.

It cuts off the sentences on my screen. I like the old format much better.
