I’m bringing this over from the forums …
I read this at tonight’s Owosso City Council meeting:
—-”I would like to ask this council to consider the formation of a Parks and Recreation committee. I understand that Owosso had such a committee at one time, but it had been dissolved by the former city council and manager.
There are several issues that need to be addressed. The future of Holman Pool, Rails to Trails, maintaining our ball fields, improving our playground equipment (especially at Adams Park), Collamer Park playground, improving the Skate Park, Holman Sledding Hill, Bentley Park grills and tennis court, Rosevear Park’s future, Grand Avenue Park and I’m sure there are many more.
A citizen committee could prioritize these concerns and offer a plan for improving all of our recreational opportunities. Can I ask this council, if they would take this suggestion under advisement and form a new Parks and Recreation citizen committee?”—–
After I read that, I was told that they might consider this in the future, but I must keep coming to the council meetings to continue asking (begging?) for their approval.
I was also told that I would have difficulty finding anyone to be on the committee. Are they correct? Is anyone, but myself, interested in re-forming this committee? Let me hear what you think.
There is definitely a legitimate need for a Parks & Rec committee in Owosso. If you would be interested in supporting this, please get in touch with Gary. I can put you in touch with him, or you can respond to this thread in the forum. As a registered forum user, you can also send him a private message.
