A primer on our local media:

The Argus Press — Shiawassee County’s only daily newspaper. Available in paper and online. Full content online is available via subscription. The website carries only lead stories, obits, births, sports. Paper subscribers receive a significant discount to subscribe to the online edition.

Readers are encouraged to express their opinions via letters to the editor. From their website:

Letters to the editor of The Argus-Press are accepted from anyone who wants to express an opinion. Letters on any topic and from any viewpoint are invited, must not exceed 400 words, must be legibly written and must contain the name, address and phone number of the writer. Letters sent by e-mail must contain the same information. Only the writer’s name and city of residence will be published. Letters may be mailed or hand-delivered to the newspaper at 201 E. Exchange St. , Owosso , Mich. 48867 , or e-mailed to argus@chartermi.net. The Argus-Press reserves the right to edit letters, both for length and content, and is the final judge of publication.

The Independent — Published on Sundays and Wednesdays, the Independent is delivered at no cost to residents throughout Shiawassee. The Independent publishes editions specific to Owosso, Durand, and Laingsburg. These publications are available for download as pdf documents.

The Flint Journal — The only major ‘metropolitan’ paper that has a reporter assigned to Shiawassee County. View their content online at MLive. You have to provide your zip code, year of birth, and gender to access this content. The content on MLive is only available for a limited time.

Readers are encouraged to express their opinions via letters to the editor — “Send a letter to be published under Your Views on the Opinion Page via the form below, by email (letters@flintjournal.com), by fax (810.767.7403) or to The Flint Journal, Your Views, 200 E. First St, Flint MI 48502-1925″ or in the Talk Back forum.

The Lansing State Journal — Major daily paper that covers the ‘newsworthy’ news in Shiawassee County. The LSJ accepts letters to the editor and longer opinion articles regarding issues of general interest. They also accept press releases, anonymous news tips, celebration announcements, and calendar and business submissions. The LSJ is well read in Shiawassee and often publishes letters from Shiawassee residents.

ABC News 12 — ABC News does a good job of covering events in Shiawassee. Send them breaking news info at abc12news@abc.com or contact them at 810-233-3130.

WJSZ Z92.5 fm — local radio station. Contact them at 989-725-1925 for information about public service announcements.
