Senators Levin and McCain mix it up on Bush’s Iraq “strategy.”
I can’t help but feel sorry for McCain when it comes to Iraq. He used to have so much credibility on matters of national security, because he was a moderate, ex POW, sensible kinda guy. Even when he was the only one calling for an escalation in Iraq, I thought ‘there must be something to it …’ because it was McCain.
Of course, McCain probably knew that as long as he was the only one calling for the escalation, there was really no danger of an escalation. And when this Iraq thing is over, McCain could say “if only they had listened to me …” And that would give him a scoche more credibility on the issue.
And then the Republicans lost Congress, and the Iraq Study Group came along, and then Bush said “oh yeah, withdraw THIS” … and now, everyone is talking about escalation. (although they call it a ‘surge’, which tricks you into thinking that it will recede after one brief push) All of a sudden, McCain sounds like Bush.
Uh oh, John McCain.
But I digress. Back to the show:
