Welcome Argus ReadersYou remember former Shiawassee Drain Commissioner Bernie Butcher, who has been falsly accused** of an imaginary crime by Shiawassee County’s Prosecutor Randy Colbry?
Well we’re having a good old fashioned fund raiser for the man.

Cost: Tickets are $10.00 each
There will be finger foods, raffle, door prizes, DJ, and possibly some live music.
A good showing will not only help Bernie, but also show Colbry and his little hand-picked helpers that these political games aren’t welcome here.

You can’t be admitted to the Michigan Bar if you attend an online law school. However, it isn’t clear whether you need to be a member of the Bar in order to take the office of prosecutor. The Michigan constitution doesn’t specifically say that you have to be admitted to the bar, and the specified duties of the prosecutor are open to interpretation. I think it would be up to a judge. I would assume the judge would rule that you did have to be a member of the bar, in order to perform the duty of representing the people in court. (You cannot represent anyone other than yourself in a Michigan court, if you are not a member of the Michigan bar)
(caveat: You can represent others in a federal court if you are a member of another state bar, such as California, and CA does admit graduates of online law schools)
But … anyone can RUN for the office, even if the winner isn’t allowed to take the seat.
Believe me, I looked into it.
