Another Republican For Granholm

This DetNews comment from Roger Crozier:

As a true Republican, I believe in small, minimalist government. State Government isn’t the cause of Michigan’s economic difficulties and it certainly isn’t the cure (see Frank Beckman column stating the same). All industrial sectors in Michigan are doing well, EXCEPT the domestic automotive industry. Problem, that is what drives Michigan, like it or not and that won’t change in just 4 years.

Granholm isn’t perfect, but she did cut more government in her first two years than John Engler did his final four. She has her faults, but she is a listener who won’t attempt to use the tools of government impose her personal or religious beliefs on Michigan citizens.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about Dick DeVos. Here’s a guy who actually supported Pat Roberterson for President in 1987 and doesn’t respect the Constitutional mandate of separation of Church and State.

I consider myself pro-life because I oppose abortion as a means of birth-control. DeVos, however, opposes abortion even in cases of rape, incest and health of the mother! He would make a 14-year-old rape victim go through a painful labor that would make her a parapalegic!

As a Republican, I’ll be supporting Granholm and looking forward to working with GOP leaders to take the party back from the pro-government extremists that are recklessly running it today.

Granholm is a moderate, fiscal conservative who has hired Republicans like Mary Lannoye (budget director for John Engler) and former State Rep. Jim McBrye, R-Mount Pleasant.

While I don’t agree with her on everything, I trust her. I do not trust Dick DeVos or his wife Betsy. Time to marginalize them and the crazies running the Michigan GOP!

That is a great comment, logical and right on the money. Roger’s comment reaffirms that Dick DeVos is out of touch with everyone except the ultra conservative wing of the Republican party. Even then, as Roger points out Governor Granholm has doen more for limited government, a traditional pillar of conservatism (although certainly not a part of today’s Republican party) than Engler did or DeVos will do.

The polls from the past week are looking very good and now in the final 2 weeks this momentum needs to translate into get out the vote drives and efforts to rally as many voters from both parties to support Governor Granholm. I’m not in MI, but have been following this important race closely to do what I can for Governor Granholm.

Hi Brad, welcome to the site!

One thing I really like about the Gov is that she is willing to look at how she can trim the govt. When the GOP has trimmed the govt, they cut services to the people. When a Dem trims the govt, the usually make operations more efficient. Not to say Dems do it perfectly, but generally speaking, the GOP never looks at cutting back on their own spending.

I am glad to see she’s doing better in the polls … this election will depend on the gotv. Republicans have been getting out their vote better, and they are good at suppressing the Democrat vote. (esp now with Terri Lynn Land controlling the SOS) So I wouldn’t be surprised if Flint and Detroit aren’t allowed to vote, and DeVos ends up with 100,000 more votes than there are registered voters.
