Blogging Live From Young Chevrolet Cadillac

No, there’s not alot of exciting action here.

But I just brought the Trailblazer in for an oil change, and brought my laptop so I could do some writing. (usually I just bring a book to read while I wait) Turns out they offer wireless Internet access in their waiting room. So now I can actually do some work while I wait.

The waiting room is nice … they have vend machines, fresh coffee, magazines, comfortable seating, and a nice tv on the wall.

And the people are pretty nice too.

So if you’re (like me) putting off that oil change because you don’t have time to spare, you should just bring the car Young Chevrolet. You can be comfortable and somewhat productive in their waiting room.

(This is not a paid advertisement … I just had something nice to say, for a change. :) )

  • It’s nice to hear you own an American made automobile, especially a Chevy!

I like Young’s but their service is very slow.

I had an oil change with tire rotation, took 1 hr 20 minutes…

Took an S-10 in for a recall of the tailgate mechanism, took 1 hr 30 minutes. This was to replace two straps, that’s it…

It’d also be nice if service was available on weekends…cars don’t break down monday-friday 9 to 6.

Also I had no idea Young’s had wireless internet access. I’d have brought my laptop last time. ;)

As the son of an American autoworker I’ll say thank you as well. :)

The world is too confusing with all the globalization though. Hondas have more domestic content than Lincolns, and are manufactured here in the US. Conversely, the “american” Chevy Avalanche is made in Mexico. It’s hard to say what makes a car “American” anymore since the logo doesn’t say much.

Though I ask myself, “where is the profit going”? If the answer is Japan then it’s a Japanese car, and so on.

My grandfather, a proud veteran of the ’36-’37 Flint Sit Down, told me to buy vehicles with VINs that start with the number 1. Does anyone know if that’s still valid? Because that’s the easiest way for me to figure out what’s American & what isn’t.

We buy American and we don’t apologize for it. And we support unions too (though neither of us are a member of a union), and we don’t apologize for that either.

Besides, how can you buy anything other than a Chevy if you’ve grown up singing “baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and chevrolet!”

    Remember that song, anyone?

Also I thought the service at Young was a little slow too. I was told 90 minutes, the paperwork read 2 hours, and it took about 2 hours + 20-30 minutes. I went in for an oil change and found out I had 3 recalls to do, plus did a tire rotation & wiper replacement. But I had Internet so I didn’t care too much.
