Blog Bits – July 30, 2006

Short on time, long on links.

Power blogging!

I love this blog.

I love the writing, I love the pictures, and I love this blogger’s love for his city.

Flint needs a blogger like John.

I really hate it when the weather kills my satellite connection. To pass the time, I am taking some pics of the storm. Here’s the wind in my willow:

Ok we’re back.

I was sorry to read that Kathy of Stone Soup Musings recently lost her grandmother. But I recommend the rest of her post, which reflects on an excellent article on DailyKos. You can follow her link to the original article.

There’s another great article here, in which she highlights an article by Kevin Murphy, who debunks the idea that a Governor can influence the job situation in Michigan.

Nirmal at Who Got The Gravy has an excellent series — Amway Exposed …

Wizard Kitten has an eye opening post here … the first pararaph of the article she sites says it all …

Dick DeVos before DeVos dicks you
“Democratic incumbent Jennifer Granholm raised $3.3 million in the first half of 2006. Republican challenger Dick DeVos nearly matched that in a single day when, on June 19, he wrote a $3 million check to his campaign. “

A really interesting thing happened to me the other day …

I read a thread in the Democratic Underground..

Which led me to an interesting Flintish blog, in which the blogger mentioned “Three-hour gossip session with everyone’s favorite Joel”

Which led me to thinking, “could this be my friend Joel from college?” (because there can only be one joel in Flint)

Which led me to this article in which I did see a photo of a man who looks like the Joel I know, plus a few years.

Which led me to google Joel and come up with these:

  • http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/member.php?s=237d04538231db8ae3f0bf64a2a96338&u=642 (requires login)

  • I was just thinking about Joel a few days before this, as I was walking through downtown Flint. We majored together, and in one of our classes he mentioned that he would ride his bike downtown on Sundays, and the only people out & about on Sundays were church-goers. He mentioned that they would purposely avoid him as he rode near them, and he thought that it was because of the way that he looked when he was riding … shabby clothes, that sort of thing. I don’t know why, but I always remembered that.

When our company moved its corporate offices downtown Flint (from Miller Road), I was happy about it, but more than a little nervous. Happy, because the move meant that some of us were going to be working out our homes rather than reporting to the new office on a regular basis. (YAY!) Nervous, because I was going to be way too physically close to an old boyfriend, with whom things were never properly resolved. But it’s kinda cool now, to know that Joel’s right around the corner (although I do feel pretty daft for not knowing that before now. )

    @@@@@@@@@@

    Oh yeah, Dick DeVos

Oh man, good question. Go with Wizardkitten (all one word) since that is how I’m known on MichLib, and now I’m finding it on other blogs, too.

When I started the blog, I was just goofing around- hence the name “for my amusement only”. I never expected anyone other than family/friends to be reading it.

After the election I might move the whole thing to Word Press or some other free site. I have just about had it with Blogger. When (if) that happens I probably will drop the “amusement” part and go with my “brand” name only.

    • Nancy Skinner has a great website. Wish other Dem sites could do as well … (MDP, Kent County Dems, you listening?)

@wizardkitten, I was on blogger for about 2 weeks before I installed wordpress here, couldn’t stand the way blogger controlled everything. I like this much better. I highly recommend WP.

@kathleen, Nancy is doing a great job working the blogosphere and the web in general. We all need a lesson from her. I expect that if she’s elected, she’ll stand up & protect the Internet rights of us poor people, who can’t afford to dump stuff in Ted Stevens’ premium Internet tubes. (or did he say pipes?)
