McAvoy Inches Closer To Complete Power

Yesterday in a heated session of the Committee of the Whole, our Board of Commissioners voted 5-2 to accept the recommendations of the Finance Committee. The matter now goes before the full board for a vote on Thursday, July 27.

    Cheers and Jeers

    Jeers

Jeers to Republicans Mike Fuja, Gerry Cole, Jerry Walden, Jim Capitan, and Democrat Kim Van Pelt, for supporting the power grab.

Jeers to Randy Colbry, who stated that it would be “tragic” to lose Margaret McAvoy. Leave it to Shiawassee’s inept and arrogant prosecutor to define a tragedy as something that would be an inconvenience to his workday.

Jeers to empty Republican suit Jerry Walden, who bases his support for Margaret’s promotion on the fact that she helps him when he has questions. That is the function of the office of the Coordinator. We don’t promote the janitorial staff for cleaning the buildings, or the grounds staff for cutting the grass … why are we promoting the Coordinator for doing what is expected of her? (And Jerry, the fact that you don’t understand your job doesn’t mean the taxpayers should have to pay more for the person holding your hand.)

Jeers to the Democratic Commissioner candidates in attendance at the meeting yesterday, who did not address the board and speak out against what we all know is wrong.

Jeers to the Shiawassee County Republican Party for removing Shannon Steffes’ signs from their office after Shannon spoke out against the promotion of Margaret McAvoy. (you Shiawassee County Republicans must be proud of your local party right about now)

    Cheers

Cheers to Judge Clatterbaugh, who was in attendance and spoke out against this move.

Cheers to Commissioners Wayne Roszman [R] and Jaime Pavlica [D], who voted against this expansion of an already bloated office.

Cheers to Republican candidate for County Commissioner Shannon Steffes, for attending the meeting and speaking out against this move.

You can still be heard on this issue!! Attend the full board meeting on Thursday. If you cannot attend, call or email your commissioners:

They actually were not taking comments while the motion was on the floor. The only reason that Judge Clatterbaugh spoke when he did, was because he cited being an employee of the county also, which gave him special interest. Tom Foster also spoke against this issue. I DO BELIEVE that the fact that there were many Democrats in attendance probably helped boost the confidence of those who did speak. You don’t have to speak to make your presence known.
