Engineered Plastic Products Inc., a supplier for General Motors and Daimler Chrysler, has announced that it will close on Friday, June 30. The Ypsilanti based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March of this year. The first Owosso jobs were lost at that time, when select salaried positions were cut from the payroll.
While company officials expected to be out of Chapter 11 by June 30, they were uncertain as to whether the plant would close. Yesterday, the president and CEO of EPP sent a letter to employees announcing that plans to reorganize have failed, and their last day of work would be this Friday.
Engineered Plastic Products has been in operation since 1987 and has factories in Owosso, Lima, and Auburn Hills. According to the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership, EPP is the 9th largest manufacturer in Shiawassee County.
A sad end for the 2002 General Motors Supplier of the Year.
