Bloggers Have An Impact!

April 12th, 2006 | by christine |

My fellow Shiawassee Democrats should have received their April 2006 issue of Shiawassee Currents. On page 6 you can find my article on the glory of blogging. ;-) Unfortunately, the article is broken into two sections, and the second piece is on a page which is missing from the issue.

Here is the article in its entirety:

Local bloggers have had quite an impact on Shiawassee politics in the past few months. We helped stop Citizens for Better Government, a well funded right-wing group, from expanding the City of Owosso into the neighboring townships. We were the first to expose the problems of the Drain office; since then, our Board of Commissioners has taken action and a state police investigation is underway. We have even seen our County Coordinator publicly discuss the need to make local government more accessible through the use of the county website; an idea advocated by local bloggers for over a year.

We’ve done this with only a handful of people. Imagine the success we might have if more people would start blogging! Imagine what we could do if more people would come forward to share their concerns and their personal stories. Those of you who read our local media know the importance of getting the Democratic voice out to the public. Who can forget The Independent’s deceitful attack on Tom Ford ? Who hasn’t noticed The Argus Press’ aggressive use of guest opinion space to attack Democrats? We can defend ourselves with the truth, but the truth means nothing if we do not share it with others.

If you would like to join us in blogging for the people, please email me at Christine@christinebarry.com. We have website space and personal training available.

I highly recommend http://www.michiganliberal.com as a starting point for those of you unfamiliar with Michigan based blogs.
