Protest Those That Hate … Thursday Night On MSU’s Campus

Women’s basketball — Penn State V MSU, Jan 5th at 7PM. Doors open 1 1/2 hours before game time. It is best to get there early. Small signs are appropriate….Rainbow and or lavender apparel Rocks!

Rene Portland, coach of the Penn State Women’s Basketball Team does not approve of homosexual lifestyles and attempts to recruit only non-lesbians for her team. She has harassed lesbians (or even suspected lesbians) on her team and has made the environment around the team very anti-lesbian.

Let’s show this woman that we are here and we are proud. Come out on January 5th to show some lesbian solidarity. We are sitting behind the basket (enter at section 120). Show up at 5:30 to get a good seat, because this is a BIG game and seats may be scarce (game time is 7pm). Please wear something or bring a sign that shows that you either are a lesbian or support the lesbian community. PLEASE come out and show your support. Also, many of you that I invited do not identify as lesbian, but PLEASE, if you support gay rights, then please show up to the game. Bring signs, wear t-shirts and buttons with pro-gay messages, wear lavender or rainbow, find a way…ANY WAY to show your support. It means a lot to me (and to others) if you would be there. SHOW UP AND SHOW SOME SOLIDARITY! HOMOPHOBIA IS NOT OK, ON THIS CAMPUS OR IN THIS COUNTRY!

The athletic dept called me. We can not have any signs that use a person’s name, that say bad things about that person, even if it is the truth!. So no Portland discriminates. We can not have a sign that says Penn State Discriminates. I asked if we could have a sign that says, We support Lesbian athletes, he said no comment. I asked if we could have a sign that says We support Jennifer Harris, he said no comment….they are scared! yay! please get as many students as possible there in lavender or rainbow. please ask them to come early and save seats in the corner general admission seats in the bottom bowl. save as many seats as possible. many people will be there.

Sincerely,

Ken Richmond, PFLAG/Lansing Area, Board of Directors
