How About Huck?

November 30th, 2005 | by christine |

The other day I received this from the DCCC:

New Ads - Fighting Bush’s Rubberstamps

Of course I thought the email would include something about Dave Camp, since he’s the quintessential “Rubber Stamp” in Congress. But there was nothing about our race here in the 4th.

Nothing. Zero. Zilch.

I was disappointed, but not surprised, that the DCCC didn’t think our race here was worth an investment. They probably don’t think our candidate, Mike Huckleberry, is a viable candidate. Huck’s just a regular guy. Not a real smooth speaker, but very passionate.

This is Huck’s second run against Camp. In the 2004 campaign, he raised and spent about $100,000, and was left with some debt after the election. Not a single dollar of that money came from the DCCC. About $500 came from the Michigan Democratic Party. Huck walked away from that election with 35% of the vote.

Camp had about $850,000, though I don’t know how much he actually spent. He’s pretty proud of his 65% of the vote though, even though it’s his worst performance since he was elected in 1990.

I met Huck when he agreed to an interview with us at Z92.5fm, based in Owosso. When the interview was over, at 11:00pm, he still had another stop to make. Huck is the hardest working candidate I’ve ever met.

I like & respect Huck, but I also have certain feelings for Dave Camp.

Disgust.

Anger.

Embarrassment.

He symbolizes everything that is wrong with this county. He ravages the environment, wreaks havoc on the middle & lower economic classes, and gay bashes for the sake of votes. All in all, he’s a slimy little rat.

I’ve been hunting Camp, in the way that one does to prepare for a campaign. I’ve been reading his speeches (the few that are out there) and analyzing his votes. Of the 5 years of voting I’ve already hand counted, I’ve found that he cast only 3 votes in which he didn’t vote with the majority of his party. And on those 3 votes, his party was split almost down the middle.

Not a single detectible smidgeon of independent thought.

The DCCC should invest in Huck this year. Huck can win. Camp is so easy to beat. But we need money to beat him. We have the candidate, we have the ideology, and we’ll have the grass roots. Everything but the money.

So I’m going to decline the invitation to donate to the DCCC. I’m giving my money to Huck. I hope everyone out there will help.
