I like it when the people who have always run things downtown decide that they need to do something about the way downtown is run.
Owosso will never be revitalized if you rely on Memorial Hospital, Baker College, and The Chamber of Commerce. That’s like asking Kurt Moffit to make the Owosso Police Department less abusive toward the public.
You have to get new blood, if you want new ideas. You can’t revitalize the downtown area with ideas from people who think Dave Camp is going to help with the job problem. If they really wanted good ideas they would have invited the people who live in and near the downtown area.
Of course, those people aren’t the power brokers. They’re the unemployed, underemployed, barely-getting-by. They’re the ones who have one car per family, if they’re lucky, and sometimes they run out of gas money a few days before payday. Sometimes they have to walk to the store to get what they need.
In other words, they’re the ones who need a prosperous downtown area. Invite them to the party and something good will come of it.
Putting a shiny new name on the status quo isn’t going to save Owosso.
